June 15, 2001, Newsletter Issue #42: Summer De-stressors

Tip of the Week

You already know that catching up on your zzzzz’s this summer will make you feel less stressed, but did you know that feelings of accomplishment are also de-stressors? Make a list of everything you can think of that you need to do. Items on your list may be as simple as sewing a button back on your favorite shirt. Long-term projects might take all summer. Those big projects can be broken into smaller parts. You don’t have to organize all of your drawers in one day. Try cleaning out one drawer a day until you are finished. Check off at least one item from your list every day. You will get that daily feeling of satisfaction with each accomplishment. (I’ve been known to put things, which I originally forgot to list, onto my list after I finished them just to be able to check them off.) Keep your master list. You will be surprised at how much you accomplished over the summer. By taking control of tasks that need to be done, which can be done during the summer, you are clearing the decks for the next school year and ultimately making your upcoming year less stressful.
