April 20, 2001, Newsletter Issue #34: Are Good Manners Important?

Tip of the Week

Knowing the rules for proper etiquette takes much of the stress out of social situations. When you know proper behavior you are more relaxed in social situations and others are more comfortable around you.

Recently a business was considering several candidates for employment. All of the applicants had similar credentials and the selection committee was having difficulty deciding on which applicant to hire. The committee and the applicants adjourned for a meal. The good table manners displayed by one of the applicants gave him the edge needed to secure the job. As a student, you may find yourself in a similar situation when interviewing for a college or scholarship. Let your good manners give you the edge you need to reach your goals.
