March 30, 2001, Newsletter Issue #31: Getting Organized for the College and Scholarship Search

Tip of the Week

Load a dozen plastic sleeves into your three-ring binder. Use the plastic sleeves to hold documents important to your college and scholarship search. The sleeves will keep your materials organized, clean, and wrinkle free. File multiple copies of the items listed below in the plastic sleeves:
1. Your official transcript
2. Your list of activities, honors, awards, and associations
3. Letters of recommendation.
4. A chart for tracking your progress in the college and scholarship search
5. A chart for comparing the various colleges by the criteria, which are important to you.
6. Copies of completed applications
7. Copies of the financial aid packages offered to you by each of the colleges

Keep your college information packets for future reference should you decide to transfer after your freshman or sophomore year. Your personal files stored in the ring binder should be kept until college graduation. Many colleges offer scholarships to upperclassmen, but request information from your high school years.
